Let's talk about the BLT for a moment. It's pretty much the best sandwich that's ever existed. Mainly because it's centered around crispy, delicious, greasy, sinful bacon. And it's dreamy lunchtime perfection when bacon meets mayo, lettuce, and tomato on white bread (or sourdough, wheat, what have you).

Here now, Eater presents the best BLTs to try in New Orleans right now, thanks to a little help from our readers during our last Friday Open Thread.

Do you see a BLT that absolutely needs to be added to this list? Hit us up via email or leave a comment, and happy lunch hour, y'all.

Cochon Butcher

No surprise that Donald Link's Butcher is home to a fan favorite BLT with housemade bacon on whitebread, seeing as these guys are the master of all things hog. But it's hard to pass up the buckboard bacon melt (with collards) when given the option.

Stein's Market & Deli

One Eater reader swears by Stein's BLT with "avocado and sun dried tomato spread on an Egg Bagel." The Nueske's applewood smoked bacon used here is good stuff.

Rivista

This buzz-worthy bakery from Chris and Lisa Barbato has a rotating menu of lunch and brunch specials, and the "B.A.A.T." has been known to make an appearance with bacon, avocado, tomato, and arugula on homemade brioche, really amazing homemade brioche, that is. They also do a bagel breakfast sandwich with bacon, farm egg, and arugula.

High Hat

Adolfo Garcia's Freret Street NOLA meets Delta Souther comfort joint has been serving a lamb bacon BLT with an oven-dried tomato mayo on sourdough (with fries) for $11 lately. One reader has declared it "hands down the best BLT in the city." Check Facebook for their daily specials, because this BLT is not a daily menu item...yet.

Dante's Kitchen

Their BLT&E includes crisp pork belly, arugula, local tomato and a fried egg on brioche. Available for brunch Saturdays and Sundays.
Brian Landry creates a neo-BLT by pairing fried Louisiana ersters with pork belly and all the BLT fixins on country toast at the Besh Group's seafood hottie in the Hyatt.

Satsuma

At both the Bywater and Uptown locations, a classic BLT is available on sourdough or wheat, or opt for the "special BLT" the subs arugula for lettuce, and adds avocado and goat cheese to the mix.

Crescent City Brewhouse

The Brewhouse has a BLT that's a "blt but funked up a bit," a reader says. Meaning, the sandwich is also topped with basil and fresh mozzarella on a brioche.

La Petite Grocery

James Beard nominee Justin Devillier makes a killer "b.e.l.t." that likely won't cinch your waistline: smoked bacon, sunny side up egg, arugula, tomato & herb aioli on multi-grain bread.
"Luke's BLT with a fried softshell crab has to be up there," a reader writes in. It is, but the Benton's bacon and crab sandwich is only available as a special, probably due to the availability of soft shells these days, rather than appearing on the menu full time. Patient young BLT jedi must be.
At the behest of a reader, this late night home of tater tachos on Frenchmen makes the list for their "great goat cheese BLT" that's slathered in a basil aioli. They also do a classic version as well.
