Memorial Day is upon us, and despite the gradual reopening of restaurant dining rooms throughout the city, most New Orleanians will be celebrating at home this weekend. Luckily, many of the best pitmasters and butchers in town are working hard to fulfill backyard barbecue needs, whether it be ready-to-eat smoked meats accompanied by all the sides or high-quality fresh cuts to fire up on the grill.

This Mid City barbecue spot has reopened its dining room, but is still operating curbside pickup and offering delivery through third-party apps Uber Eats and D’livery Nola. Call to order from the full menu of sausage, barbecue sandwiches and platters, biscuits and cornbread, and a wealth of snacks from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. everyday.

Arguably New Orleans’s most popular spot for barbecue, Blue Oak has been staying busy during the stay-at-home order, staying open for delivery and curbside pickup and both working with local relief organizations and servings its own free meals to laid-off hospitality workers. Smoked meats like barbecue brisket, barbecue plates, a variety of sausages, sides, and specials are available to order online or by phone from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. For now, the dining room will remain closed.

Located in Nola Brewing's taproom, McClure’s Barbecue turns out ribs, brisket, pulled pork, chaurice sausage, and chicken with a variety of sauces and sides like barbecue jambalaya and barbecue poutine. Open daily from noon to 6:30 p.m. for takeout or for dine-in at a socially-distanced table.

Central City BBQ

This expansive Central City spot is offering is open and serving its equally expansive menu of sides like spoon bread and Brussels sprouts; smoked meats, sausages, and ribs by the pound; and plates and sandwiches. Dine-in or order takeout to pick up daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. or stop by its pop up at Patois, Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This friendly barbecue joint on N. Claiborne opened fairly quietly a few years ago, gradually building a loyal fan base for its ribs, pulled pork, fried corn, and mac and cheese. Call to order daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
