Kitchen in the Garden is the brand new outdoor show kitchen and event space in the gorgeous New Orleans Botanical Garden. Programming is eye popping — from chef-driven dinners starring local celeb chefs like Michael Gulotta and Susan Spicer to culinary workshops including make the perfect tortilla, create a creamy etouffee sauce, and even roast a whole animal. There’s a built in pizza oven and a wood fired oven, a state of the art camera and flat screen and best of all, you are surrounded by plants both decorative and edible. Chef Patrick White is in residence for all kinds of fun events that include art, music, food trucks, and more.
Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine

Southern Food and Beverage Museum & Museum of the American Cocktail

Simplee Gourmet NOLA
Simplee Gourmet is a gourmet kitchen boutique that offers cooking classes, to the public as well as private parties and groups. Classes range from eight to 14 participants with topics like tailgating parties, cast iron cooking and Cajun Creole cuisine. You can BYO wine and beer and even drop it off the day before for chilling. The two and a half hour classes start at $75 and you can be as involved as you want — or just drink wine, which is fine too.

Besides degreed programs in culinary and pastry arts, NOCHI offers enthusiast courses for those who love to learn and eat. Hands-on classes, capped at 16, start at $130/person. You’ll prepare a full meal with the instructor’s guidance and then enjoy a family-style meal with wine. Demonstration classes, capped at 25, start at $65/person and might include lectures, tastings, cooking demos, or a combination.
Crescent City Cooks
Hands on and demo classes are offered at Crescent City Cooks in the lower French Quarter on Chartres. Both include a meal and the focus is on classic New Orleans and South Louisiana dishes. The cooking school offers daily three-course lunch demos classes from 10 to 12:15 p.m. for $35 or roll up your sleeves and make the likes of dirty rice stuffed peppers and shrimp remoulade for $100-$150 depending on the size of the group. A glass of wine or beer is included.
The Sazerac House
This spanking new interactive cocktail museum is beyond impressive, so whether you take a class or not, go there. But the drink and learn events at the Sazerac House are fun, with topics like pairing whiskey with cheese, making cocoa cocktails and ideas for Creole cocktails for the holidays. Rye and whiskey tastings are especially popular.
New Orleans School of Cooking
New Orleans School of Cooking has been teaching cooking in the French Quarter since 1980. Offering both demo and hands on experiences in cuisines including Cajun and Creole, the school offers a daily morning demo class priced to attract visitors in the $28 to $32 range. Guests watch the action and then eat up, with drinks and beer. Instructors vary, with classes in French and Spanish taught by local foodie Julie Borreda of Destination Kitchen tour company.
The Mardi Gras School of Cooking
Feel like family at the Mardi Gras School of Cooking, an interactive classroom set in a French Quarter home kitchen. Hands on experiences ($150-$195 pp) include learning the art of using knives, the importance of seasoning, what the Holy Trinity means to Louisiana cooking...it’s all very intimate. The setting, the vibe, and the breaking bread makes it feel like learning about food with a friend or Louisiana relative.
Langlois Culinary Crossroads
Founded by dynamic chef Amy Sins in 2012, Langlois was originally a cooking school in the Marigny. Now Sins brings New Orleans cuisine and Louisiana cooking to you. Leading a team of chefs who are storytellers, food nerds and culinary historians, the Langlois experience can be a private class and dinner for 10 in a client’s home or culinary entertainment for 10,000 at the convention center. Sins also works with a network of historic private event spaces and homes around New Orleans.
Culinary Kids/Culinary Connections
Head across the lake to discover this beautiful kitchen near the Mandeville lakefront. Culinary Kids exposes kids 10-18 to all kinds of culinary skills, and special needs wannabe chefs are also welcome. Despite the name, this Northshore school offers adult and corporate programs, with Corks and Cooking classes a favorite featuring local chefs’ talent.
Casa Pelican B&B and Cooking School
This lovely Algiers B&B doubles as a cooking school, offering small group, hands-on classes instructing home cooks of all skill levels in the regional cuisine of Louisiana. Casa Pelican spotlights Cajun and Creole recipes in a relaxed, casual atmosphere, with lots of space for questions and learning. Enjoy wine/beverages while you cook and afterwards, enjoy the fruits of your labor around the table. with a sit-down meal of the dishes prepared. Pricing for topics like Louisiana Seafood and Jazz Brunch runs around $125.
Passionate Platter Herb Kitchen
Linda Franzo leads group classes by appointment on using herbs and garden to table cooking classes. Passionate Platter offers private herb garden tours in Olde Towne Slidell, along with gourmet and aromatherapy gift baskets. Kids cooking camps are also offered along with cook and cork classes with topics like homemade pastas and herb-fueled lunches.
