New Orleans' Best Hangover Dishes, Decided by Readers

View as Map

Last Friday, Eater asked readers for their go-to hangover dishes in New Orleans. And since everyone is gearing up for an epic Halloween night, here are fourteen of the best ways to cure your hangover tomorrow.

Soups weigh in heavily on the map with Pho, Menudo, and Old Sober? Yaka Mein? making a strong showing. But it's The Company Burger that seems to cure the most hangovers. While there were a few questionably shilly comments, the majority of readers seem to gravitate toward the greasier side of hangover dining, with lots of pork and eggs coming into play. Not surprising. Here, without further adieu, are the best hangover dishes in New Orleans.

A Single/Double at The Company Burger

A "Company Burger Single with an egg and bacon," plus amazing onion rings and a mayo bar, make Freret's favorite burger joint the "hands down" best way to greet the day after. Get a double if you need to.

Yaka Mein at Rampart Food Store

While Ms. Linda's Old Sober is the most beloved, yaka mein fans can find a decent version at The Rampart Food Store "aka that orange place."

A 'Slammer' from Slim Goodies Diner

How does a "delicious bowl of hash browns, bacon, fried eggs, cheese, and honestly, I don't remember what else" sound for your hangover? Some believe it "must be accompanied by a fountain poured diet coke with extra ice" to truly resurrect the dead.

Migas at Surrey's Cafe & Juice Bar

Migas is a true gut-buster: scrambled eggs mixed with veggies, poblanos, cheese, corn tortilla chips, and chorizo. The Surrey's version also comes with yummy starchy sides and they have amazing fresh squeezed juices.

Chili Cheese Omelet at Camellia Grill

While the walking dead also like Camellia Grill's burger, it's the healthy dose of chili smothering this omelet that takes the focus off your aching head, for a few minutes anyways.

Ribs at The Joint

A commenter suggests the "Ribs, mac & cheese, slaw, beans, and a couple of pieces of white bunny bread to make a sandwich," a great big hangover sandwich. Advil not included.

Eggs Cochon at The Ruby Slipper

Biscuits topped with slow cooked pork debris topped with poached eggs topped with special hollandaise? Yes, please.

Menudo at Taqueria Guerrero

Menudo is a spicy Mexican soup usually made from tripe, not Ricky Martins. This Mid City hidden gem is home to the well-knoown hangover cure, and even the "seafood soup accompanied by tacos with the green creamy hot sauce" can do the trick.

Pho at Pho Tau Bay

A healthier hangover cure, kind of (meatballs?). Pho Tau Bay is home to a variety of soups with "dumplings" and "egg noodles" to make you feel better though the meatier pho is what commenters call "a sure cure."

French Fry Po Boy at Verti Marte

Many a drunkard has stumbled into this French Quarter convenience store/deli for late night helpings of mac and cheese, but it's the French Fry Po Boy (among others) that is perfect for the next day's hangover.

Steak and Eggs at Dante's Kitchen

There's a reason Dante's is one of the best brunch spots in New Orleans (especially for fine dining on the cheaper side). The "Steak and eggs" and "biscuits and grits are mandatory" hangover food.

Hot Sausage Po Boy at Gene's

For the really hungover, try the Hot Sausage Po Boy at this hot pink shop on Elysian Fields that always has some sort of craziness going on 24/7, and gives out complimentary sodas. Or you can go get a frozen daiq next door and start again.

One reader says, "Another excellent remedy lurks at Elizabeth's Restaurant. Start with a Corpse Reviver cocktail & follow it up w/ praline bacon & Cajun Bubble and Squeak. For professionals only." Exactly.

Crispy Pork Shoulder at Sylvian
