Dragon shrimp dumplings from Wishing Town

It doesn’t get much more comforting than the dumpling — delicate dough stuffed with some combination of ingredients which has been boiled, steamed, or fried. Popular at dim sum feasts in Chinatowns around the country, New Orleans may have few such offerings (Panda King in Gretna has the market cornered on dim sum cart service) but there are still plenty of local dumplings to die for, found at New Orleans’s best spots for Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, and more. And not for nothing, the frozen version carried at Hong Kong Market in Gretna can satisfy a craving in a pinch.

Here’s where to find the best dumplings — from gyoza to bao to shu mai — in and around New Orleans, with a focus on takeout and/or delivery.
