Why bring your dog to a bar?

Because sometimes your wing man/woman has four legs. Because it turns an aimless walk into a trip fraught with purpose. Because it gives your pup a chance to socialize too. Because you’ll be amazed at what you can learn taking dogs to a bar - from vet names to dishing on service dog requirements and doggy daycare. And really, because it’s tail-wagging fun.

New Orleans, arguably one of the best drinking towns in the world, has plenty of pooch-friendly watering holes that welcome you and your furry companion, inside and outside. Typically, since this isn’t Paris, food isn’t served at a place where dogs convene. But if Rover chills outside, what’s the diff? And if the rules get bent once in a while, the belly rubs are worth it.

A long-loved neighborhood spot located in the back corner of the French Quarter, dogs are a near-guaranteed sight at Cosimo’s. They’re even allowed inside, given that many of the regulars are dog-owners. Cosimo’s has a separate kitchen with great burgers, decent pizza, and an array of bar snacks.

Markey's Bar

You can’t bring the pup inside this great Bywater neighborhood spot (technically), but there is plenty of outside seating at Markey’s that is fur-friendly. Go in and order your drinks and grub - get the nachos - and then settle in for some good people watching. Ogle a steady stream of stay-cationers en route to the Country Club pool next door, and if your dog is cute, they’ll say hi.
