Flour Moon Bagels

Flour Moon began as a pop-up, growing into the most in-demand independent bagel purveyor in New Orleans in a short time. Breanne Kostyk opened her first shop last year on the Lafitte Greenway last year, an instant hit — a line of dedicated customers grows at the shop every weekend, a fanbase more than willing to wait for their chance to savor flavors like cacio e pepe, pumpernickel, rosemary sea salt, and more. That’s not to mention the incredible toppings, like French chili butter, lox cream cheese, whitefish salad, roasted carrot spread, and more. The bagel sandwiches and tartines are simply divine, as are the frozen drink specials. Be sure to say hi to John, the shop’s unofficial door attendant, and to be respectful of the queue. Closed Wednesdays.

Small Mart

Small Mart has long been known for its New York bagels, which owner Bryant Wilms has shipped from New York. The shop makes an array of freshly made cream cheeses to pair with, as well as high-quality lox, the only non-vegetarian option at the cafe. If it’s a dozen varied bagels you seek, be sure to order early, as availability declines as the day goes on.

Bywater Bakery

Bagels are only available on Friday at Bywater Bakery, but they are worth planning your weekend around. Much like anything this joyful Ninth Ward bakery makes, the craft is impeccable and the results divine. Choose to add a spread of schmear or not, just get there before it closes at 3 p.m. on Friday.

A wide range of bagel flavors including garlic and onion, marble rye, and cinnamon raisin are hand-rolled, boiled, and baked fresh daily.

A destination for fresh New York bagels, Italian deli and restaurant Cibo makes it easy to enjoy the delicacy, offering them fresh and frozen. It’s also delivering through Postmates and DoorDash currently, in addition to in-store pickup, to help keep the weekend extra leisurely.
