After receiving a number of customer requests, beloved Jewish-Italian deli Stein’s is working to fulfill New Orleanians’ Passover needs for the coming holiday, from specialty products to a full takeout meal prepared by local chef Daniel Esses.
After the COVID-19 pandemic forced the temporary closure of all restaurant dining rooms in Louisiana, Stein’s was one of the first to make a shift, changing overnight from a packed lunch destination to a full-curbside pickup operation. Esses is known for his work as chef and co-proprietor of Three Muses and for previously operating Esses Foods, which brought fresh black squid ink pasta, fettuccine, gnocchi, and other Italian specialty items to New Orleans farmers markets. His kosher takeout menu features Passover classics like brisket, matzo ball soup, and gefilte fish, among other dishes, and gives the option to order a single “Pesach Feast” meal for $30 or to order mains and sides in servings for four.
Stein’s has also stocked up on Passover staples like matzo and prepared beets for customers to round out their meals, and is open to requests for further specific items.
To order the Passover dishes prepared by chef Esses, call the restaurant Rimon (504-232-0758) or email info@rimontulanehillel.com by Monday, April 6 for pickup on Wednesday, April 8. Call Stein’s directly (504-527-0771 or 504-281-4467) for specialty Passover items and staff will put together an order.
