Ajun Cajun, the ever-popular food booth found annually at the likes of Jazz Fest and French Quarter Fest (among others), is bringing its soft shell crab po-boys and seaweed salad to Oak Street this fall. Ajun Cajun will replace Ninja, the longtime New Orleans sushi restaurant that closed this week after 26 years.
Ajun Cajun is the brainchild of chef Momo Young. Young has been a sushi chef in New Orleans for decades, getting her start on the West Bank at Tokyo Sushi. She went on to own Ninja restaurant, where she received high praise for creativity and experimentation, and to build her family-run mobile kitchen Ajun Cajun.
The food booth, which just celebrated its 25th year at Jazz Fest, quickly become a top destination at music festivals around town for its tempura-battered soft shell crab po-boy, garlic beef rib-eye po-boy, shrimp yakisoba, and seaweed and cucumber salad.
Ajun Cajun is expected to open next month at 8433 Oak Street in Leonidas. Eater has reached out to Ninja’s general manager Ricky Toy for information on plans for the restaurant and will update this post if we hear back.
