Longtime New Orleans restaurant manager and owner Danny Millan finally opened Azul last week, a casual, family-friendly sports-themed restaurant and bar in Lakeview that’s been in the works since early 2018, according to Nola.com.

Millan’s 35-year career in New Orleans includes managing the original Brennan’s on Royal Street, Restaurant August, and the now-closed Le Foret. He opened his first restaurant in 2014, the fine-dining Cava, which he closed in April to focus on Azul. Millan says he designed his second establishment to better suit the neighborhood, one home to many families and off the typical tourist’s path. Cava will be replaced by another family-oriented spot later this year, Junior’s on Harrison.

Azul, located at the corner of Pontchartrain Boulevard and West Harrison Avenue, is a new space built from the ground up, according to Nola.com. Food items range from pub standards like po-boys, burgers and wings to bistro favorites like truffle fries, seafood croquettes, and soft-shell shrimp, a specialty Millan brought over from Cava. Azul also promises an extensive draft beer system, and wines by the glass that don’t cost more than seven bucks.

Azul is open Monday through Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
