The Green Room Kukhnya, a new restaurant from the crew behind the Eastern European kitchen that served out of St. Claude Avenue music venue Siberia Lounge for seven years, is now open in Treme, as announced by chef/owner Matthew Ribachonek on Facebook.

Owners announced plans at the end of March, ceasing operations as Kukhnya (Russian for kitchen) at Siberia on April 7, and have spent the last month fundraising and preparing the new space at 1300 St. Bernard Avenue, two blocks off St. Claude in the Seventh Ward. The opening menu is huge, and expands on the Eastern European specialties Kukhnya served; favorites like pierogis, Polish kielbasa, and blinis, as well as burgers, sandwiches, and hearty entrees.

Siberia is planning to replace Kukhnya with a kitchen run by Mowgli Pierlas, the owner of Arabella Casa Di Pasta and the recently-closed Estano, and his former chef Gustavo Naar for a menu of Brazilian street food, and is hosting food trucks in the meantime.

The Green Room Kukhnya is open 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday, 5 p.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday, and closes Tuesday.
