A new cafe coming to the Marigny in May will serve coffee and espresso, gelato and Italian ice, and pizza and paninis out of its St. Claude Avenue storefront.
Located next to the Allways Lounge at 2330 St. Claude Avenue and steps from other late-night music destinations Hi-Ho Lounge and Siberia, Nola Mia Gelato Caffe is wrapping up construction for its projected opening next month. City permits for renovation and certification from the Historic District Landmarks Commission for the address were filed by Raffaele Iorio, whose name matches a post on the Nextdoor app about the impending opening of the cafe.
Photos on Nola Mia Gelato’s Facebook and Instagram indicating the shop’s imminent opening show a sampling of brightly-colored Italian ices, a menu listing 18 flavors of gelato, and delicious-looking pressed paninis with fillings like mozzarella and tomato, chicken cutlets, and prosciutto.
Nola Mia Gelato is among other developments to its area of St. Claude Avenue, which just saw a Starbucks open next to Robert’s grocery store, the iconic Gene’s Po-Boys go up for sale for $5 million, and the closure of longtime beauty supply store Beauty Plus after owners said they found out rent would triple.
