The 11-month old daiquiri and pie shop Queenie’s on St. Claude appears closed, with doors locked and chairs on tables for the over a month, social media channels disabled, and the shop’s phone number out of service.
Amanda Bybee and Tara Pfeiffer opened the fresh-feeling corner spot last May, with a distinctive approach to feeding the Upper Ninth Ward neighborhood with fresh-fruit daiquiris, homemade pies, and nightly comfort food dinner specials.
The kitchen was run by Johnny Williams, Keon Brimmer, Ronneil James, and Asmar Clark, also behind the popular soul food restaurant on Claiborne Ave. Fam Bizz (still going strong), and got their start selling plates of food at second lines. A centerpiece of the corner shop was an elaborate, three dimensional suit belonging to Clark, who is a spy boy for the Young Generation Warrior Mardi Gras Indians.
While it’s Google listing says Queenie’s is permanently closed, the company who has owned the building at 3200 St. Claude Ave. since 2013, Awamira LLC, appears to have filed to renew the liquor license for the address just this week, so it’s possible something new is in the works for the space.
Messages to the LLC and Pfeiffer have not yet been returned, but this article will be updated if we hear back.
