A breakfast and lunch cafe with a massive menu is opening soon in the Lower Garden District, directly next to post-college apartment destination The Saulet.
An occupational business license issued to Jennifer Matthews earlier this month calls Twisted Waffles, 1420 Annuncation Street, a “standing coffee/safe shop,” and an alcohol permit filed in February is pending.
Twisted Waffles is confidently described on its website as “everyone’s favorite cafe in New Orleans,” putting a “new twist” on breakfast and lunch. The menu is extensive, with brunch-like breakfast items like creole grits, chicken and waffles, and customizable “waffle bowls” and “wafflewichs,” in addition to six specialty waffles and a few more traditional breakfast options. For lunch you can customize a burger, choose from a varied list of sandwiches and salads (think club, BLT and a...Caprese waffle?), or go big with crab or salmon cakes.
The arrival of Twisted Waffles seems imminent, with a Kermit the frog countdown meme posted on its Facebook page last night, though messages have so far gone unreturned. The eventual hours as listed online are Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
