An Uptown taco stand that’s been in the works since June opens to the neighborhood next Thursday, March 21, in an unassuming shack with a big outdoor space at 3984 Tchoupitoulas Street.
Barracuda is a counter-service operation with a 30-seat “margarita garden” from Brett Jones, previously the operations manager at Dinner Lab, a manager of both the front and back of the house at Ruby Slipper, and was the opening manager at the Ace Hotel. Boasting house-made tortillas and use of seasonal, local products, the menu has a half-dozen tacos, the omnipresent bowl option, and excitingly, all-day breakfast items, according to a press release. The menu is affordable, with tacos going for $3 to $4.
Barracuda joins two other recent additions to the city focused on tacos, but precedes a few still in the works. New are Esplanade Avenue’s NOLA Cantina and CBD mezcal bar Espiritu, and upcoming are Nole and Otra Vez, two of our most-anticipated spring openings, as well as a long-rumored taqueria on St. Claude Avenue.
The stand’s opening hours will be Tuesday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m, with plans to eventually include Mondays, early breakfast, and late night.
