Mid-City has a new Mexican restaurant — Agave House opened in late August, reports Ian McNulty at the Advocate. Agave House’s schtick is to start with Mexican flavors and move out from there into less traditional dishes.
Michael Corolla, Agave House’s restaurant manager, told the Advocate that the restaurant’s menu diverges from those traditional Mexican fare in a particular way, calling it a “progressive look” at those flavors. This translates to dishes like chicken enchilada pasta and crawfish nachos. Fans of more standard Mexican dishes won’t be disappointed, however — also on the menu are plenty of options for tacos and burritos and enchilada and tortilla soups. The dessert menu includes a tres leches parfait and a churro ice cream sandwich. The cocktail menu include plenty of margarita options — including an “Italian margarita” and a rosé sangria.

Agave House is taking over the space formerly occupied by Melt, the grown-up grilled cheese restaurant, which closed its doors in late June.
