Breakfast favorite Surrey’s bringing its fresh juices, Costa Rican breakfast, and laid-back vibe to the longtime home of Cafe Freret with the eatery’s third location opening after a half a million dollar building renovation is complete, reports the Uptown Messenger.
And good news for anyone who ever enjoyed dining under the old service station awning at Cafe Freret: That’s going to stay.
Surrey’s also has a location Uptown on Magazine Street and in the Lower Garden District on the same street, serving fresh juices, breakfast items like shrimp and grits, migas, pain perdu, and a Costa Rican breakfast with eggs, pico, and avocado. Lunch includes salads and sandwiches.
The newest cafe will have the same all-day breakfast and lunch menu and the same 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. business hours seven days a week as the others, but the kitchen will be a lot bigger.
After over a decade slinging breakfast in the former service station location, Cafe Freret closed its doors at the end of 2015, saying there were some issues with the property.
