Couvant, a French brasserie, opens for dinner service today in the Eliza Jane Hotel. The Central Business District’s newest Francophone restaurant has an opening menu chock full of brasserie classics.
Chef Brad McDonald is the force behind Couvant, and he’s logged time at big name restaurants including Per Se and Noma, even opening his own barbecue restaurant in London (Shotgun.) McDonald got his start cooking in the American South — at City Grocery in Oxford, Mississippi. Couvant is basically his homecoming.
McDonald’s opening menu has a classic-with-a-twist brasserie menu: steak frites, roasted chicken, moules frites, steak tartare. Foie gras comes with peach preserves as well as toast, and there’s an option for a bone-in double veal chop to feed two.
There are several gathering spaces throughout the location, from the 17-seat bar to a six-seat raw bar (plus, you know, normal floor seating.) Dinner service begins tonight, from 5pm until 10pm, with breakfast and lunch to come.
