CONTROVERSIES—City Council has nixed their support of the highly contested Love Kreme ice cream shop — unanimously voting against it late last week reports Uptown Messenger. The Louisiana Ave. spot — which property owner Reginald Commodore had at one point proposed attaching short-term rental apartments — was hotly contested by neighbors.
LISTICLES—Go Nola has a breakdown of eight spots throughout the city for oyster happy hours. Included on the list are plenty of under-a-dollar oysters (from Superior Seafood, Blind Pelican and Grand Isle among others) plus decent happy hours at Pascale’s Manale and Elysian Oyster Bar. [GO NOLA]
CELEBRITY CHEFS—Andrew Zimmern is back at it again on NOLA eats. Bizarre Foods host Zimmern showed his special way of making a muffuletta — and honestly, it’s a bit off. Zimmern starts off well, with many hallmarks of the classic, but then he calls olive salad “relish” and considers red romaine lettuce is a must-add ingredient. Hmm. Then again, you do you, Andrew. EATER IDK—Big 6 Brass Band enlivened a slow night at the Popeye’s on Chef Menteur Highway. Big 6 played an improvised song with chicken-centered lyrics. See the video over at NOLA.com [NOLA.COM]
