Seed, the chic vegan eatery that opened in the Lower Garden District in 2014 with vegan takes on American comfort food, is expanding to the Marigny this fall, taking over the recently shuttered Spotted Cat Food & Spirits in the New Orleans Healing Center, according to Marigny expert Stanford Rosenthal. The new eatery, according to a person familiar with the plans, is slated to open in September.
Spotted Cat Food & Spirits arrived on St. Claude Avenue as a locals-friendly expansion of the popular Spotted Cat Music Club on Frenchman Street. Diners lauded it for both cocktails and dishes like breakfast risotto, but it didn’t last a full year.
Seed follows a recent upsurge in vegan eateries in New Orleans, including Sweet Soulfood, which opened in April of this year.
No word yet on any changes to the menu or aesthetic at the new Seed. A liquor license application is already in the works.
