Feelings Cafe, whose website still reads “new chef, new vibe, it’s a whole new feel,” is back on the market, looking for a new owner and possibly a new vibe and feel, according to an advertisement on Craigslist.
The decades-old restaurant closed recently and the owner, Craig Trentecosta, has been looking for a buyer.
Another restaurateur had considered purchasing the restaurant, according to reports from both Eater NOLA and NOLA.COM, however Eater NOLA confirmed today that the potential buyer has backed out.
The Craigslist ad reads, “Great opportunity to own a New Orleans landmark restaurant and bar. All equipment and furnishing [sic] included. All licenses recently renewed. Business and equipment $ 150,000.00 New long term lease $ 6,500.00 Triple net net. Call for details Michael Laughlin.”
Feelings Cafe opened in 1979 and moved to its current location the following year. In the years that followed, Carol Channing, Elizabeth Taylor, and Richard Burton all spent time there.
In the last few years, it has struggled to gain footing with ownership changes every couple years. Jim Baird bought the restaurant in 1983. He ran it until 2014, when Tony Marino bought it. In 2015, Marino nearly changed the restaurant’s name amid changes to the menu and an interior renovation. Two years later, in 2016, Trentecosta bought the restaurant. He’s owned it for the last two years.
