The new Lakeview deli and pizzeria from the Katie’s restaurant owners, Francesca, opened over the weekend on Harrison Avenue with Creole-Italian fare and St. Louis-style pizza.

Scot and Stephanie Craig, who also own Katie’s in Mid City, took cues from Stephanie Craig’s St. Louis’ roots for the menu. Her middle name is Francesca.

The St. Louis version of pizza means that the circular pie is topped with Provel cheese (a St. Louis cheese mash-up of cheddar, Swiss, and provolone), and sliced into squares. Toppings range from the expected to cochon de lait, spinach and artichoke, and a cheese pizza with feta, provel, and mozzarella.

Provel cheese pops elsewhere on the menu as well, on a po-boys with fried oysters and bacon, and on a meatball sub.

Years ago, the restaurant’s space was the home of Charlie’s Delicatessan, known for a “moon” sandwich filled with ham, roast beef, provolone, Swiss, coleslaw and Russian dressing on a whole round of muffuletta bread. Francesca is serving a version of this as well.

The menu also includes truffle mac and cheese, “frips” (a fry/chip mash-up), salads, and burgers.

Opening hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Francesca is closed on Sundays.
