Galatoire’s Has Closed Its Baton Rouge Outpost

THE SHUTTER — Galatoire’s Bistro in Baton Rouge has closed according to the Advocate, but the closure isn’t as sudden as it may seem. Owner John Georges had been looking for someone to take over the lease for over a year according to the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report. [ADVOCATE]

EXPANSIONS — Also in Baton Rouge news, New Orleans’ Bellegarde Bakery has expanded to the Baton Rouge market, with its breads in several of the city’s grocery stores (Whole Foods, Robert’s, Rouse’s, Calandro’s) and one restaurant. [Greater Baton Rouge Business Report]

NEWS — Ballard Brands, the company behind WOW chicken wings and PJ’s Coffee, has officially bought James Beard Award-winning Food Network star Jose Garces’ 12+ restaurants in Philadelphia, Atlantic City, and NYC, according to a press release. The company’s headquarters is in Covington, Louisiana. A bankruptcy court in New Jersey approved it the sale this week. Here’s Eater’s previous story about the acquisition. [press release]

EVENTWIRE — GW Fins chef, Michael Nelson, is heading up fishing rodeo and boucherie at the Faux Pas Lodge Invitational on Saturday, July 28. Along with a few other prominent New Orleans chefs, the group will show participants how to cook with parts of the fish that are usually discarded (fish heads and fins, for example) at the the Venice Marina (237 Sports Marina Road, Venice, Louisiana). HAPPY HOURS — Loews New Orleans Hotel is slinging a couple $5 cocktails (Ella’s old fashioned and another special cocktail) on July 13, July 20, and July 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. On July 20, they are dishing out free scoops of Piccola Gelateria’s dark rum banana fleur de sel caramel gelato made with Old New Orleans rum.
