Melt, Mid City’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese Hub, Has Closed Its Doors

A Mexican restaurant will replace it

Gourmet grilled cheese house, Melt, closed its doors in Mid City on June 22, according to a statement released this afternoon.

Since opening two years ago, the restaurant had added a rooftop patio, brunch, and cocktails. Helen Freund called it “more polished and grown-up than just another place hawking the childhood staple,” in a review last year.

“While it’s been a dream come true for Greg and I to open Melt and to have watched it grow over these last two plus years, we both have full-time careers that demand our time and attention,” said co-owner Miles Tully, Jr. in an email to Eater NOLA “We did not come to this difficult decision lightly, but after months of discussion, we felt that it was in our best interests to pursue our other ventures at this time.”

The building already has new owners, brothers Oscar and Allan Chimal, who are planning to open Agave Mexican restaurant in Melt’s place. The opening is set for early fall of 2018.
