Happy’s Irish Pub, a Baton Rouge import that opened in the CBD in 2011 with bartenders dressed in fetishized school girl outfits and the slogan “Happy’s girls make happy boys,” has closed its doors and buttoned up the blouses to make way for something the owner hopes will be a better fit for the space: Copper Vine Winepub.
Owner Kyle Brechtel ‘felt there was a need for a neighborhood restaurant,’ according to a report from the Times Picayune that first announced the switch. (He was not the original owner of Happy’s)
With up to 30 wines on tap plus beers and cocktails, former The Sammich owner Mike Brewer is developing the menu. He’s looking at menus from long-running Maylie’s for inspiration, which occupied the space from 1876 to 1986.
Maylie’s standards included boiled beef, deviled eggs, and jambalaya, according to a Times-Pic story.
