Johnnie Schram, founder and owner of Fat City’s beloved and shuttered Crazy Johnnie’s died Monday morning in her Metairie home after a long illness, reports Helen Freund. She was 76.
Crazy Johnnie’s was best known for cheap steaks and filet mignon po-boys. (Though the restaurant started as a bar, it added a very popular steak night in the ‘90s and soon budget-friendly quality meat became its main business.)
After three decades, the sharply rising prices of quality cuts of beef forced the restaurant’s shutter during the summer of 2014.
According to the Gambit, a service for Schram will be held 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. May 19 at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Metairie.
