The Tremé neighborhood just got a vegan soul food restaurant — and the demand on opening day was so high that the restaurant ran out of food.
Sweet Soulfood (1016 N. Broad St.) threw open its doors on April 7 with a menu of vegan, organic, soy-free, and gluten-free sweets, salads, smoothies, and New Orleans classics like pralines and jambalaya.
Service is cafeteria-style and includes an ice cream bar, salad, bar, and hot bar.
The restaurant grew out of a successful vegan catering business and festival stand that dished out meat and dairy free spreads with macaroni and cheese, stuffed bell peppers, dirty rice, and sweet potato pie.
Opening hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
