New Orleans crawfish boils are getting all kinds of twists and turns with both a Vietnamese crawfish boil and a Jamaican crawfish boil both popping up in New Orleans this week.
The Jamaican crawfish boil lands at Paradigm Gardens tonight when Karibu Kitchen combines forces with visiting Jamaican chef Swaison Brown and Turkey & the Wolf’s Nathan Barfield for a menu that includes curry crawfish boil, jerk chicken with Jamaican white barbecue sauce, dirty rice and peas with roasted pork shoulder, drunken cornbread, and special cocktails. It’s 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and tickets are $40. BYOB is fine.
New Orleans folks are pretty enthralled with Vietnamese crawfish boils, as evidenced by the turn-out at the ones Palm & Pine’s Amarys and Jordan Herndon have been putting on for the last two years. Good news: Their first boil of the 2018 crawfish season arrives this Thursday at the Black Penny from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Crawfish is $7 a pound and comes with all the “trinkets”: sweet Vietnamese sausage, pineapple, mushrooms, crawfish spice, garlic and carrots, lemongrass butter, fresh herbs, and Dong Phuong Bread to scoop up everything that remains. Cash only. More info here.
