Shipley Do-Nuts Just Rolled Into Old Metairie

It’s the very first Shipley’s in the New Orleans area

FACEBOOK

Houston-based Shipley Do-Nuts just unleashed doughnuts and kolaches on Old Metairie at its first New Orleans-area location. It opened on Tuesday, April 10, reports Helen Freund.

The first Shipley opened in Houston in 1936 with a dozen doughnuts selling for only five cents. Now with over 300 franchised stores in the southern U.S., the chain is best known for its yeast doughnuts, cake doughnuts, filled doughnuts, and kolaches (like the “Big Earl,” Earl Campbell sausage, cheese and jalapeño).

Located at the corner of Metairie Road and Labarre Drive, the franchised location is owned by WDSU-anchor Scott Walker and wife Jennifer, Desi Vega (of Mr. John’s, Desi Vega’s Steakhouse, and Dei Vega’s Burgers and Shakes), and developer and contractor Jimmy Licciardi.

Opening hours are 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. A dozen glazed runs around $8.50 these days.
