EXPANSIONS — Theo’s Neighborhood Pizza, known for its cracker-thin pizza crust, is expanding to yet another neighborhood. The pizza mini-chain, which currently has four spots in New Orleans, will take over a former Italian Pie location in Covington with plans to open in April or May. [NOLA.COM]
KING CAKE WIRE — While all the New Orleans publications were busy rating the best king cakes and king cake-inspired dishes to be had in the Crescent City, Cook’s Illustrated did what it could with its home base far away in Boston. It tested mail-order king cakes, which is equally important work. Spoiler alert: Gambino’s won. Here are the results. [COOKS ILLUSTRATED]
EATER IDK — Emeril Lagasse talks with Fox8 about his start at the Commander’s Palace kitchen, his foundation, and where he gets his accent (which people say sounds a lot like a Chalmette accent). [FOX8]
MARDI GRAS — This year marks Arnaud’s 100th anniversary and the restaurant’s top culinary brass will be honored royalty in this year’s Krewe of Lafcadio parade, which marches through the French Quarter on February 10 at 2 p.m. Look out for Arnaud’s chef Tommy DiGiovanni; Charles Abbyad, the head maitre d’ at Arnaud’s for 35 years; and Chris Hannah, head bartender at the restaurant’s James Beard Award-winning French 75 Bar -- and be prepared to scream for wooden spoons. Also, FYI: The parade is named for Lafcadio Hearn, who authored The Creole Cookbook in 1885. [ADVOCATE]
PARADE FOOD — Kenton’s has muffulettas to-go from now until Lundi Gras. [press release]
EXPANSIONS — PJ’s Coffee will swing open in the A.B. Freeman School of Business on Tulane University’s campus on Valentine’s Day, bringing the total number of PJ’s on the campus to four. Another PJ’s outpost will open in the Ochsner Health Center in Covington on Saturday. [CITY BUSINESS]
