Because it already feels like summer

While much of the rest of the nation is dealing with cold temps and actual snow, James Beard Award-winning Hansen’s Sno-Bliz will open for its 79th sno-ball season on February 27, marking the official end to the (very short) winter season in New Orleans. The announcement was made on Hansen’s Facebook page today.

Run now by granddaughter Ashley Hansen, the famous stand for super-fine shaved ice treats topped in bright syrup was originally opened by Ernest and Mary Hansen in 1939. Considered the oldest sno-ball stand in the nation, Hansen’s claims to have built the first ice shaving machine, and many of the syrups are made in-house.

The James Beard Foundation awarded the sno-ball shop a 2014 American Classics Award. Dong Phoung Bakery in the East won an American Classics Award this year.

Opening hours will be 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Hi. We thought you could use some good news. Our 79th season will begin on Tuesday, February 27th. There Are No Shortcuts To Quality. ✌
