New Orleans’ Christmas Pop-Up Bar Returns to the French Quarter This Week

With seasonal libations

Sippin’ Santa/Official

Holiday season pop-up bar Sippin’ Santa will re-debut in New Orleans this week, opening at Beachbum Berry’s Latitude 29 approximately one moment after Thanksgiving has ended.

Opening this Friday (November 23) and running through December 31, it’ll transform the French Quarter bar into a tiki-but-make-it-Christmas wonderland. Drinks will be part-festive — think an Old Fashioned with gingerbread bourbon — and part tiki (the Kris Kringle Colada with dark rum, Cynar, allspice, lime, pineapple juice, and coconut cream).

While the bar is named Sippin’ Santa, it’s tied into the much more widespread holiday pop-up bar Miracle, which started in New York a few years ago, and rapidly spread to bars around the country and now, the world. (Regular Miracle bars go for a more “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire”-esque wintery theme, rather than tiki)

The Sippin’ Santa concept spun off of the Miracle one, also starting in New York, before spreading, and is opening for a month in cities like Houston, Atlanta, and Washington. This year, Latitude 29 owner Jeff “Beachbum” Berry is a key player, having put the cocktail menu together. (His bar hosted the same pop-up last year, but it wasn’t branded with his name.)

Sippin’ Santa opens Friday November 23 at Latitude 29 (321 N Peters St) and . Hours are 3 to 11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 1 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
