Here’s one new happy hour drinking option for you: the Loews Hotel on Poydras Street has wheeled in a retrofitted steamer trunk and will be using it to serve crafty cocktails for the coming months.
Named the Bellhop Bar, the bar will open nightly from 5 to 7 p.m. (fittingly, the opening is announced with a bell ringing on the bar), and will serve two batch-made cocktails and a couple of wine options.
The two cocktails are a take on the Old Fashioned, named the Old Fashioned Streetcar Named Desire — it features Angel’s Envy Bourbon, Demerara, and Regan’s, Angostura, and Peychaud’s bitters. Then there’s the martini-inspired She Lykes it Sweet with Hangar One Vodka, pomegranate liqueur Pama, cranberry, lemon juice and Chambord.
New Orleans isn’t the only city to have the very retro bar pop-up — it’s visiting hotels in Atlanta and Nashville, too, but with different drinks on offer.
