Louisiana’s First Non-Airport Shake Shack Is Headed to Metairie

Danny Meyer’s hit burger chain Shake Shack is planning a location in Metairie for mid-2019.

It will be the first Shake Shack in the greater New Orleans area that is totally accessible to the public — a few months ago, Shake Shack announced a location for Louis Armstrong airport’s new terminal, but that one will be behind security. (It will presumably open around the same time as the terminal itself, early next year.)

Shake Shack will be located at 3501 Veterans Memorial Boulevard on the corner of Severn Avenue, right across from Lakeside Shopping Center — a release sent to Eater sets the opening date for the middle of next year, but no precise month was given.

The New York-born burger chain will do its classic burgers on potato buns, cheesy fries, chicken sandwiches, shakes and hot dogs — that is, all the staples from every other Shake Shack. It’s part of an expansion binge for Meyer’s highly successful fast food venture — it now has around 180 locations across 26 U.S. states, and a number of international locations.

Most recently, Shake Shack announced that it’s also expanding to Mexico for 2019, and hoping to open 30 stores there within ten years.
