BOOZE NEWS — Saints player Cam Jordan is the kind of guy who stays true to his trash-talking word. He just sent Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton a bottle of 2013 Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon in keeping some smack talk: If the Saints beat the Panthers three times in a year, he’d “have to send this guy a wine bottle.”
The plans were documented on Twitter and Jordan Winery responded by inviting Cam Jordan up to spend the night at the winery because “we do share names, after all.” The player says he’s been drinking the wine for years and it’s one of his favorites. This bottle runs about $55. [ESPN]
KING CAKE WIRE — Both locations of Liberty’s Kitchen are selling Bittersweet Confections chocolate king cake. At either location, purchase full cakes, slices, or make pre-orders.
OPENING ALERT — Cafe Bella opened on the Westbank on October 21. The new spot serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus coffee and pastries. Full bar. Located at 3156 Barateria Blvd.
AG REPORT — The LSU AgCenter says farmers and experts are “cautiously optimistic” that last week’s freeze didn’t do serious damage to Louisiana’s sugar and wheat crops. The wheat was probably young enough (meaning most of the growth was happening underground) to tolerate the freeze. The sugarcane can split during a freeze, letting bacteria in if warm weather follows. The weather has remained cool so far. [WWL]
