Ramen Ya’ll, the popular, “new-school” ramen noodle pop-up that has been moonlighting at the Freret Beer Room and Barrel Proof, will move into permanent digs inside soon-to-open bar CBD Social on January 18. The ramen spot is the brainchild of Yutaka Hitomi, who has worked in the Commander’s Palace kitchen for the last year and a half.

Located at 709 St. Charles Avenue between Marcello’s and Herbsaint, the space was once the home of Cibugnu Sicilian restaurant before rebranding as an event and pop-up space in 2015. Now it’s slated to become CBD Social, a new bar from the folks behind Fat Boy Pantry. Hitomi will be serving up ramen on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Hitami’s creative approach to ramen is backed up by some real-deal ramen schooling. He attended Yamato Noodle School in Tokyo in September of 2017.

Ahead of the January 18 grand opening (which is the grand opening of the bar as well), the restaurant will hold a ticketed “soft opening” event on January 6 and 7. The $27 dinner includes a three-course meal with Japanese street food okonomiyaki over French fries, 12-hour tonkotsu ramen, and sweet beignets filled with azuki bean paste and topped with praline sauce. Without a ticket, a la carte options will be available. Plus, the team will be serving up some cocktail pairings for an addition fee.
