Some of the folks behind Mid City’s Katie’s Restaurant & Bar, Scot and Stephanie Craig, are taking over the Lakeview space recently vacated by Koz’s to open an “upscale deli” this spring, reports Ian McNulty. The new deli has not yet been named.
The menu at the new spot will pay homage to a couple restaurants. Expect the “the legend” po-boy from Katie’s, which combines New Orleans barbecue shrimp and cochon de lait, as well as a few other Katie’s dishes. It’ll also feature a few throwback sandwiches from Charlie’s Delicatessen, which occupied the same space before Katrina and before Koz’s moved in. Scot Craig grew up eating the Moon sandwich (ham, roast beef, provolone, Swiss, coleslaw, and Russian dressing on a whole muffuletta loaf) at Charlie’s, so that one will be on the menu. Stephanie Craig grew up in an Italian neighborhood in Missouri, and there will be plenty of influences from that as well.
Koz’s closed last week after nine years at the location so that the owner could go back to school and pursue another career. The original Koz’s in Harahan remains open.
