Aglio, a new South Market District deli, opens tomorrow at 11 a.m., taking over the space that was formerly Philip Lopez’s sleek eatery Part & Parcel. Mike Mericle and Marie Guevara, who had both been with Part & Parcel since it opened in August 2016, bought the sandwich shop from Rebel Restaurant Group (the group behind Root and Square Root).
Lopez opened Part & Parcel in the South Market District’s Paramount building with sandwiches, beers, face bacon, and plans for a full retail section once planned to be a “grungier Dean & Deluca.” It closed in late August.
The new deli marks a continuation of Part & Parcel to some extent. Mericle and Guevara were integral to the deli’s growth and decor (they painted much of the graffiti-like murals on the walls) and will keep many of the most popular sandwiches on the menu, according to a NOLA.COM report. They’ll add some sandwiches and some more happy hour items, plus that retail section that had always been planned for the space. Many of the pair’s family recipes, some which have already been on the menu, will make their mark at Aglio.
