Julia Street lost popular taco and margarita den La Casita in May, but it turns out it will get to keep the tacos. Ariaane, showcasing a short menu of Central American and South American dishes, including tacos, empanadas, and arepas, will open in mid-August, reports Ian McNulty of the Advocate. The restaurant will have a full bar, heavy on the Latin American spirits.
Chris DeMers, who opened Picayune Social House on Camp Street in May, is behind the project. This marks his second restaurant in New Orleans and his second restaurant opening this year.
The restaurant offered a brief preview with an abbreviated menu during White Linen Night this past weekend in anticipation of its opening. Not much has changed in the interior of the tiny restaurant: McNulty reports that “the restaurant has seen a light renovation and retains much the same look,” with exposed brick walls, central bar, and French doors.
Meanwhile, La Casita’s second location on Oak Street Uptown is still slinging its tacos and margaritas and happy hour specials.
