Marjie’s Grill, the kitschy restaurant on South Broad known for its expert Mekong-meets-Mississippi Delta food mash-up, is closing through September 12 for an end-of-the-summer vacation to Thailand, but owners Marcus Jacobs and Caitlin Carney are bringing diners a very special souvenir — a Thai tiki dinner at the restaurant on September 19 in collaboration with their neighbors, craft rum distillery Roulaison Distillery.
“We’re excited about the dinner because we will be recreating authentic Thai dishes from our travels rather than the Southern Southeast Asian fusion we serve daily. Also, who doesn't love a good Tiki drink with a spicy meal,” Jacobs said in an email to Eater.
Herbsaint alumni Jacobs and Carney opened Marjie’s Grill just before Christmas in 2016, and only five months later inspired the New York Times’ Meghan Murphy-Gill to pronounce “weird pieces of pork” “sublime.” The restaurant has charmed critics locally as well.
