It’s his ‘really disgusting, shameful pleasure’

Anthony Bourdain’s ‘really disgusting, shameful pleasure’ is the mac and cheese at Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. He’s known to “sneak in there with a hoodie on late and night,” but he always gets nailed, he says in an interview with the Boston Globe.

This isn’t the first time the Parts Unknown host has revealed this particular fast food weakness. In a 2016 interview with Food and Wine, he said, “I have an unholy and guilty attraction to fast-food macaroni and cheese. During the morning I get these horrendous cravings for Popeyes mac and cheese, and, uh, I will often disguise myself to try to slip into Popeyes. Or in a pinch I will even go to the Colonel. There, I admit it.”

As far back as 2012, he admitted to eating Popeyes fried chicken on the way to Penang on his show, No Reservations. As a follow up, he tweeted, “Embarrassed about the Popeyes confession. My hideous secret.” and “I even eat that nasty Popeyes Mac'n'Cheese. If no one is looking.”

Really, there’s no shame in loving some Popeyes. Chef Kelly Fields doesn’t even think it qualifies as fast food in New Orleans, while Chef Isaac Toups is a regular at the fast food chain.
