La Casita, the popular margarita, taco, and happy hour hub that recently closed its Warehouse District location, is returning to the neighborhood with a new home and a large courtyard just a block from the original. La Casita proprietor John Michael Wade signed the lease for 845 Carondelet Street this afternoon and expects that it will be open by mid-fall. The new space is owned by Marcello’s proprietor Gene Todaro Jr. and was most recently used as an event space.
Daily happy hour is still on daily from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., with classics from the original Julia Street menu and some newer items. The bar will have an expansive offering of tequilas and mezcals, as well as cocktails.
The newest La Casita will offer slow smoked brisket, chicken, and pork tacos. The menu also features mole and a build-your-own taco section (with lobster and scallop tacos, among others).
La Casita’s original location on Julia Street in the Warehouse District closed on May 20. Ariaane, a new Central American and South American restaurant to be run by the landlord’s business partner, is opening in mid-August on Julia Street where La Casita got its start.
Projected opening: September or October, 2017
Update: This story was updated on August 10, 2017 to reflect the new information that became available after the lease was signed.
