Over-the-top grilled cheese hub, The Big Cheezy, will close its original location in Mid City near Broad Street and Tulane Avenue on July 24 because it had outgrown the small space, according to a report on NOLA.com.
According to a statement by owner Thomas Jacobs in the NOLA.com report, “That location has become a huge distraction without much upside potential so we had to man up and break up with her.”
After opening in 2015, the restaurant expanded to spots Uptown and in Kenner. The owners are eyeing an expansion to downtown New Orleans in the future.
The menu includes vast variations on the grilled cheese sandwich with additions like shrimp, egg, and others, as well as burger melts, fries, and that classic soup pairing for grilled cheese — tomato.
Another grilled cheese restaurant, Melt, opened in Mid City on Banks Street in November 2016. That spot is currently working on the addition of rooftop seating.
