Houma is getting a new piano bar when The Upper Room opens tonight, reports Houma Today. It’s opening at 7834 Main Street, above Mahoney’s Downtown Houma and in the former space of Smokey Row. Mahoney’s owner Gary Brown is the brains behind The Upper Room, and he told Houma Today that he’d been thinking about opening a piano bar for years.
The Upper Room will be an intimate space — think six to seven tables inside, plus some balcony seating outside, where smoking will be allowed. The cocktail menu is ten drinks long, with five classics — including an old fashioned, and a twist on the classic Paloma called the “Houma Paloma” — and five fresh mixes.
The Upper Room is officially open tonight at 7p.m., and tonight’s festivities include local pianist Todd Adams as well as Tim Buie. Buie is a “piano entertainer” and the holder of two Guinness World Records — for participating in a dueling pianos performance for over 60 hours. Should be an interesting night.
