- Mandeville is thisclose to banning smoking in its bars, reports NOLA.com. City Councilwoman Laura Sica is sponsoring an ordinance that will ban smoking in three of the city’s freestanding bars. As smoking has already been banned in bars that also serve food, the new rule would only affect three joints — including Ruby’s Roadhouse, which estimates that 90% of its weekday patrons are smokers. The ordinate comes before the council today.
- NOLA.com also rounds up six long-gone NOLA burger joints that their readers miss. NOLA’s burger memory lane includes the rowdy, controversial Audubon Tavern and a pricey, caviar-topped burger (washed down with Dom, natch) from Michael’s Mid City Grill.
- Gambit has word that NOPSI Hotel’s in-house restaurant Public Service now has a chef at the helm. Chef Dustin Brien is taking over the farm-to-table spot at 317 Baronne St., which is opening July 6th. Brien was previously as the now-shuttered Mediterranean restaurant Salu.
