Sno-Balls Aren’t Kid-Only Territory (Here’s Where to Get Boozy)

Plus, the Queen of Louisiana Seafood has been crowned.

  • Chef Bonnie Breaux, of The St. John Restaurant in St. Martinville, has been crowed the 2017 Queen of Louisiana Seafood, beating out 11 other competitors to win the honor. Chef Breaux cinched the title with a dish of crackling-crusted black drum. Long may she reign.
  • Sno-balls are a necessity for a hot NOLA summer. Boozy updates on this classic frozen delicacy are also a necessity. Two spots in town that are slinging the latter 21+ treat: While Brennan’s hasn’t announced their specific flavors just yet — strong contenders include ginger mint julep and blackberry tea — know that these will involve a mountain of shaved ice and sweet, boozy vibes. Brennan’s sno-balls are available starting at the end of this week — June 23. Meanwhile, Loa is classing up the joint, serving a Granita cocktail that will change monthly, “echoing the traditions of the sno-ball.” First up for June is a fresh melon charentais.
