Justin Devillier apparently isn’t satisfied with simply owning, operating (along with his wife Mia Freiberger-Devillier) and cheffing one of most beloved NOLA restaurants in the country. Last year, his Garden District spot La Petite Grocery was named one of the 38 best restaurants in the country by Eater. In addition to the well-loved Magazine Street outpost, the Devillier duo also own Balise in the Warehouse District. But they’re ready to expand their NOLA presence.
Gambit Weekly has just reported that the chef is opening another restaurant — this time, in the French Quarter. This time, Devillier is opening a French brasserie in the historic Hurwitz Mintz building, at 217-225 Chartres Street. The anticipated opening date is Spring 2018, but the duo have yet to announce a name for the project.
It’s the tasty innovative items — like blue crab beignets — that put La Petite Grocery on the map. But the Garden District spot isn’t the only award in the chef’s portfolio — last year he himself won the coveted James Beard Award for Best Chef: South.
Update 8/18/2017: This story was updated with new information, the anticipated opening date of the new restaurant.
