Food and Wine magazine released its annual list of the Restaurants of the Year this week, bestowing the honor on Turkey and the Wolf, the radical, addictive, delightful, and super-buzzy sandwich hot spot in New Orleans.
According to the magazine, reporters spent six months traveling a total of 45,000 to hundreds of restaurants in 20 cities. These reporters believe the local sandwich shop from Mason Hereford and Lauren Holton is one of the most “magnetic” restaurants in the country.
The Food and Wine editors say that one might be tempted to “call it schizofrenetic” if it weren’t so “mind-bendingly delicious.” They go on to say that Mason Hereford is “a chef who has as much range as he does a sense of humor, and an uncanny understanding of exactly what we want to eat and how we want to eat it. In a word: dank.”
Turkey and the Wolf was also nominated for a James Beard Award this year as best new restaurant. (Turkey and the Wolf is killing it, basically.)
Turkey and the Wolf has been mirroring some of Shaya’s awards this year. Last year, Shaya made Food and Wine’s list of best, new restaurants. Last year, Shaya was also nominated for (and won) the James Beard for Best New Restaurant in America.
