Chef Robert Vazquez and Lindsey Jo Vasquez are opening “contemporary coastal” spot Briquette at 701 South Peters, the second restaurant they have planned to open in the Warehouse District this summer, reports Todd Price. The couple is behind the forthcoming Opal Basil, which is moving from Mandeville to its new Warehouse District home, as well as Vive healthy meal delivery service on the North Shore. Briquette and Opal Basil will be next door to each other on South Peters Street.

In the report, Vasquez, who moved from his native Arizona to New Orleans over 15 years ago, says that he wants to “use the whole coast line, take the coast influence from Arizona, to Texas and Louisiana.” Opening menu items will likely include “lobster tamale with chorizo, tuna with smoked bacon risotto and honey ginger aioli and adobo chicken with tasso pinenut corn pudding.”

Vazquez has a long culinary work history to from which to draw inspiration, having worked in high-end resorts in Arizona and opening the first tex-Mex restaurant in China, reports Price.
