It’s been a rough go for taco and margarita joints this month with La Casita (634 Julia St) on Julia Street announcing it will close its doors just after Mizado made the same announcement, reports Ian McNulty. La Casita’s last day of service on Julia will be May 20, but its Oak Street location will remain open.
La Casita on Julia opened in the doors on Julia in 2013. It preceded a wave of Mexican restaurants opening in New Orleans and gained a strong following “with a cantina feel around the confines of its brick-lined interior and a generous happy hour to lure the downtown after-work crowd.” It opened its second location on Oak Street three years later, renovating the former home of Squeal BBQ and luring the Uptown and University crowd with its ample outdoor seating.
Though plans to open another La Casita elsewhere have not ben confirmed, McNulty reports that “La Casita proprietor John Michael Wade hinted in a statement that another location could be in the works.” [ADVOCATE]
